CATCH&CLEAN DAY 2024CATCH&CLEAN DAY 2024

It all started with two anglers from the district of Gifhorn in Lower Saxony, Niclas Benna and Kai Behme. As they kept coming across bodies of water littered with packaging waste, bottles, scrap metal and other garbage on their fishing trips, they quickly took the initiative and set up their own Instagram channel, CATCH&CLEAN. Their credo: #fishingismore. On the one hand, they wanted to show the public that fishing is not just about catching fish, but also about respecting nature and caring for the water. Secondly, it was a matter close to their hearts to mobilize the angling community to post both the fish they catch and the garbage they collect at their fishing spots. With success! While voluntary litter collection campaigns were already common in many clubs, the initiative gave the issue even more momentum - far beyond the angling community.

The annual CATCH&CLEAN DAY in autumn is now a day of action not only in Lower Saxony, but also nationwide, on which anglers, fishing clubs and nature lovers work hand in hand to clear lakes, ponds, rivers and canals of garbage.
They are supported by the major industry associations, which take on coordinating tasks, carry out press work or provide practical materials such as bin bags.

The German Angling Association also drew an impressive balance for 2024 after the day of action: around 300 clubs and groups took part, which corresponds to an estimated 3,000 participants, including even Austrians and Swiss. Together, around 9 tons of waste were fished out of the water and disposed of properly.
