Recycled paper is far more than just an environmentally friendly product - it stands for the responsible use of resources and future-orientated action. As part of this, the Paper Atlas competition visualises how public institutions are driving this change and are real role models in the process.

A guide to sustainable paper use

The Paper Atlas competition is a key benchmark for the use of recycled paper in Germany and a strong signal in favour of sustainable action. Organised by the Initiative Pro Recyclingpapier (IPR) in cooperation with the Federal Environment Agency, the competition recognises cities, districts and universities that demonstrate particularly high use rates of recycled paper with the Blue Angel. Participants report their paper consumption and the proportion of recycled paper each year, creating transparency and comparability. The winners set standards by demonstrating that a complete switch to resource-saving paper products is feasible. Bremen 2024, for example, impressed with a quota of 100% recycled paper and set a strong example.

Why recycled paper is so valuable

Compared to virgin fibre paper, recycled paper saves enormous amounts of energy, water and wood. It reduces CO₂ emissions and protects forests, which are preserved as important carbon reservoirs and habitats. By using recycled paper, local authorities, companies and educational institutions can make a direct contribution to environmental protection - without any loss of quality when using paper.

innotec has also always been committed to the responsible use of resources and the promotion of recycling. With innovative concepts for the correct collection and disposal of recyclable materials, we make a decisive contribution to ensuring that materials such as paper remain in the cycle and can be recycled efficiently.
