Proper waste separation is a crucial contribution to environmental protection. But although we all know the principle, far too much recyclable material still ends up in residual waste - a loss for the recycling cycle. How can people be motivated to separate waste better? The "Waste separation works" initiative has found a creative answer: Gamification. With its new online game "Rubbish Rush", it combines knowledge with entertainment and raises awareness of correct waste disposal.

This is how important it is to separate waste correctly

Many people think that separating waste is complicated. But it's easier than you think - especially if you know how to do it. Only waste that is correctly disposed of in the yellow bag, yellow garbage can, glass or paper container can be recycled. Everything that ends up in the residual waste is incinerated and irrevocably lost. This is exactly where "Rubbish Rush" comes in: it teaches in a playful way which waste belongs in which garbage can.

A multitasking game with a message

The principle of the game is as simple as it is clever: players navigate their garbage to the appropriate garbage cans. This requires not only speed, but also knowledge. The better the players are at correctly allocating waste, the higher their level increases. Just like in real life, correct sorting pays off - with success in the game and a more sustainable future.

"Rubbish Rush" is not just for children or teenagers. "Waste separation works" has deliberately developed the game for all age groups. Whether young or old - everyone can brush up on their knowledge and have fun at the same time. This is already the third game from the initiative, which uses a contemporary approach to show that environmental protection doesn't have to be a dry subject.

Why learning through play is so important

Games like "Rubbish Rush" achieve what pure information campaigns often do not: they make the topic of waste separation tangible and entertaining. Because the players are actively involved, the knowledge sticks better. At the same time, this promotes a positive attitude towards the topic, which motivates people to change their behavior in everyday life.
